New player questions and some help needed

Hello everyone, I’m really hooked with this game! I have some questions though.

1] Nether stuff. I’m currently doing the castle quest for the first nether creature. I’m doing a stronghold since they gave me a blue egg. Should I go full defense gems, or split some health gems in? Should I even bother with any other type of gem? Also, other than only using level 10 gems, and not doing more than 3 same type activations, should I be aware of some other caveat/wait for something else first? Also, should I be keeping random egg drops from creatures I would never consider of creating a nether form, or is it safe to trade them for power?

2] Artifacts. I’m not sure if I should even be bothering with anything else other than swords and armour. Everything else seems to split it’s primary stats which sounds bad but I might be missing something. Also, I’m trying to make a high attack sword for my Brim smith, but the attack it gets from whetstones is fairly randomised… Is there any way of boosting that or is it always random? First try it got something like 60-70 attack, second more like 20…

3] Realm types. Is there any way to reliably farm a specific type of realm? Say I find a particular level realm I want to farm, is there any way to clear it, reset it, and clear it again? If I portal out, save and exit and re-enter it seems to get randomised, same when I save and exit inside the realm then reenter…

4] Does provoke last one turn only, so you have to use it every turn?

5] I find myself constantly running out of resources, specially power, granite and essence. I cannot even make use of the extra ritual slots I got due to resource shortages. And I cannot get that creature that gives bonus to resources because I can’t survive higher realm levels to find the vendor… Anything other I can do, or I just suck it up and keep buggering on?

6] Consumables. Should I be hoarding, using very conservatively, spamming? I especially use resource boost consumables pretty much as I get them due to 5 above. I do keep 2-3 for treasure golem encounters later though.

7] Cores. Is there any reason I should be getting cores of a creature after I got 6 of it already? I grab a minimum of 6 from every creature, and 9 of important ones, but should I be constantly extracting if I can? (lower realm levels only)

8] Currently all my loyalty points are going in spoils of war (15/20) and duty upgrades (5/10), with a small investment in rituals, extra spell slots and pill drop chance. Am i missing something i should be doing instead?

Finally some advice needed.

So currently I’m mage level 40something, and I simply cannot survive anything above level 3, and even level 3 often gives me trouble. My current party is admiteddly a rag-tag of low tier creatures, namely a brim smith, a slime, a stronghold, a blood hound, a servant hunter and a twisted devil. I recently unlocked tier 5 creatures.

The problem I have is that often half my party is dead before the stronghold even gets a turn. (Also I am a death mage so none of that life skill) On realm tier 3-4 I often find that even my brim smith is dead before he gets a turn, and he is much faster than the stronghold. All my creatures are around the same level (40) btw.

So am I just not supposed to go on tier 4 realms until I have a powerful and synergistic team online?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the huge wall of text. (this was also posted on the steam forums to increase the chances of getting replies btw)

“Not doing more than 3 same type activations”? There are no worries to be had! You must be getting that from the Castle Quest “help,” which wants you to generalise your first Nether (and make it pretty bad). A specialised Nether will most of the time be better than a generalised one.

Now, I would put all Defense activations since the Egg is blue and improves Defense. (And then give an artifact to your Stronghold with lots of Health enchants to make it last.) Some Health activations and gems wouldn’t be bad, but your multipliers will go down significantly (read this guide if you haven’t already: https://forums.thylacinestudios.com/t/856, really helpful!).

2] Artifacts. I’m not sure if I should even be bothering with anything else other than swords and armour. Everything else seems to split it’s primary stats which sounds bad but I might be missing something. There is an artifact for each main stat, and then there are artifacts mixing two stats. I would also go for a specialised artifact since you cannot change the value it gives you, anyway.

Enchantments give you semi-random values. Do you have the Blacksmith tier that lets you re-forge artifacts? If not, you should research it. If you have it, go to the Blacksmith and choose “Re-forge.” You will be able to re-roll values (from x to y, depending on your level) to try to improve them. It demands quite a lot of brimstone and crystal, though.

3] Realm types. Is there any way to reliably farm a specific type of realm? Say I find a particular level realm I want to farm, is there any way to clear it, reset it, and clear it again? Not really. But you will be able to buy certain spells that let you choose the type of the next realm you will visit from the vendor you mentioned in 5].

4] Does provoke last one turn only, so you have to use it every turn?

Only one turn, unfortunately.

The early game is pretty rough resources-wise. As you said, get the Nightwing Gargoyle, again, from the vendor (Bynine). Keep going to level 3+ realms to have a chance to find him. You mention that your creatures get killed before they even get a turn, you might want to enchant your artifacts with some Speed, then. Perhaps that will be enough for them to go first (for a while, at least).

6] Consumables. Should I be hoarding, using very conservatively, spamming? I especially use resource boost consumables pretty much as I get them due to 5 above. I do keep 2-3 for treasure golem encounters later though.

Doesn’t really matter. Keeping them for Treasure Golems is good, though. Once you find . . . the vendor (yep!), you will be able to buy the Pocket Dumpling, it manually and randomly uses one of your consumables before every normal battle. And there is a Perk that grants it the chance of returning the consumables to your inventory after it uses them (maximum: 25%).

By the way, everything Bynine sells will be for Exalted Emblems (maybe you already found some of those?).

7] Cores. Is there any reason I should be getting cores of a creature after I got 6 of it already? I grab a minimum of 6 from every creature, and 9 of important ones, but should I be constantly extracting if I can? (lower realm levels only)

Well, with three same cores, you can create a Minor Sigil. It will make you fight a pack of powerful creatures and maybe you will receive a Major Sigil from it. Beat the Major Sigil and maybe you will receive a legendary material. It’s more for mid-late game, though.

Other than that, there are achievements for extracting creatures and defeating Sigils. So if you’re into that, it’s another reason.

8] Currently all my loyalty points are going in spoils of war (15/20) and duty upgrades (5/10), with a small investment in rituals, extra spell slots and pill drop chance. Am i missing something i should be doing instead?

No, that’s good. Maybe you should put some points in the chest-spawning Perk (improves chance of enemies dropping treasure chests after defeating them) or Loot Hoarding (improves the general quality of things you find, remember it is still random, though).

Finally some advice needed. [. . .]

The problem is that your creatures go last. So yeah, enchant your artifacts with some Speed until they’re able to go first and you will be in a much better shape!

Thanks in advance and sorry for the huge wall of text.

No worries! Hope that helped solve some of your concerns!

Thanks for the reply!

I finally got a Nightwing gargoyle and it has solved most of my resource issues. Also changed my party. Now it goes along the lines of Brim Smith, Raven Acolyte, Fallen Carnage, Nightwing Gargoyle, Stronghold, Siren Oracle. Much more stable and does a good job ending battles fast due to the carnage.

The thing is, too many supports that I have no idea how to make useful in combat :stuck_out_tongue:

I am currently doing the level 7 blacksmith ritual, and have done all the available enchanter upgrades. I wonder, what is the last upgrade for blacksmith and enchanter? Because I do not want to transmute until I have finished all upgrades, and I do not want to find that I still have upgrades than only unlock on higher levels (I’m level 60ish)

I don’t remember the total number of upgrades but you should be pretty close to it—if you haven’t reached it, already. I think there are only three upgrades related to Transmuting, so you should wait until that point before Transmuting any materials.

At first, I thought that it was kind of pointless but I soon wanted a specific material, so I spent all of my brimstone and all of my crystal until I found that material. I must have spent more than one million of each just for Transmuting, in the end. :stuck_out_tongue:
